What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over an existing tooth, restoring its full shape, size, strength and appearance. Crowns are used when a tooth has been significantly damaged, heavily filled, or weakened by a crack or root canal treatment.
Modern crowns are made from tooth-coloured ceramic materials that look virtually identical to natural teeth. They're strong, durable and blend seamlessly with your smile.
When is a crown needed?

How long do dental crowns last?
With good care, a well-made crown can last 10–15 years or more. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene significantly extend their lifespan.
Do crowns hurt?
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain during treatment. Some mild sensitivity or discomfort is normal for a few days afterwards.
What's the difference between a crown and a veneer?
A veneer covers only the front surface of the tooth. A crown covers the entire tooth and is used when there is significant structural damage, after root canal treatment, or to support a dental bridge.
Will my crown look natural?
Yes, modern all-ceramic and porcelain-fused crowns are made to match the shade, shape and translucency of your surrounding teeth precisely.
Can a crown fall off?
It's rare, but crowns can occasionally loosen. If this happens, keep the crown safe and contact us promptly, it can usually be re-cemented.
